Overview
At Redbridge Tuition, we teach an integrated KS3 Science programme in Year 9 (we do not split into the three sciences at this stage). We strengthen core understanding across Biology, Chemistry and Physics while building the maths of science and practical confidence. That way, students move into GCSE with secure methods, clear vocabulary and calm exam habits.
Curriculum priorities
Biology foundations
- Cells, tissues & organs; microscopes & magnification
- Photosynthesis, respiration & diffusion
- Health, pathogens & immunity (intro)
- Inheritance, variation & basic genetics (intro)
- Ecosystems, cycles & human impact
Chemistry foundations
- Particles & states of matter; changes of state
- Atoms, elements, compounds & the Periodic Table
- Chemical reactions: conservation, balancing (intro)
- Acids, alkalis, neutralisation; salts (intro)
- Energy changes, rates (qualitative), separation techniques
Physics foundations
- Forces & motion; distance/velocity-time graphs
- Energy stores & transfers; power & efficiency
- Electricity: circuits, V–I, resistance (intro)
- Waves: frequency, wavelength, speed (qualitative/quantitative)
- Particle model: density & internal energy (intro)
Working scientifically & maths of science
- Variables, control & evaluation; risk assessments
- Graphing skills: scale, units, gradient & area
- Equations: recall, substitution & rearranging
- Units & conversions (k, m, c prefixes), significant figures
- Required practical style methods & write-ups
Year 9 assessments
- School-set assessments: topic quizzes, practical write-ups and an end-of-year exam.
- Scheme alignment: many schools begin GCSE content in Year 9; our plan mirrors your school’s route so there are no surprises in Year 10.
- Readiness checks: we monitor equation recall, graph skills and vocabulary so students hit Year 10 confident.
How we help
- Diagnostic start: quick baseline across strands and skills; targeted plan by topic.
- Clear teaching & modelling: concise notes, step-by-step examples, then independent practice.
- Equation & graph fluency: regular drills on units, rearranging and interpreting gradients/areas.
- Practical confidence: method planning, measurement, uncertainty and evaluation.
- Small groups, big feedback: personal targets each week; simple home practice that moves the dial.
Looking ahead
Tier and route decisions (Combined Science vs Separate Sciences) are usually discussed during Year 10. Year 9 is the best time to secure equation fluency, graph skills and core concepts so both pathways remain open.
