Bancroft’s School is a co-ed independent school in Woodford Green. The school consists of around 1,000 pupils, of which 200 are pupils of the Preparatory School and 800 are pupils of the Senior School. The school strives to provide a positive learning atmosphere that allows each child to flourish and succeed using the range of different opportunities provided by the school. Bancroft’s School also allows pupils to challenge themselves in their learning by taking part in a friendly and safe school environment.

History

Bancroft’s School was founded in 1737, following the 1728 death of Francis Bancroft. The school began in Mile End in the East End of London, where it was a small charitable boy’s school. In 1884, the school moved to its new site at Woodford Green, and its old site now forms part of Queen Mary, University of London.

The current school location in Woodford Green is four and a half acres and, after a major building programme in 2004, now consists of new kitchens, a new Sixth Form Centre, a new sports hall, and a modern Drama Centre
