Practise synonyms for 11+ verbal reasoning
Similar Meaning questions ask you to identify words with the same or a closely related meaning. This free worksheet and video tutorial provide practice in recognising these relationships.
A simple example
Which word is closest in meaning to “rapid”: slow, quick or quiet? The answer is quick. Both rapid and quick describe something happening fast. This example illustrates the skill; follow the instructions on the worksheet for its question format.
How to approach the questions
- Read the word carefully and think of its meaning.
- Compare each option and eliminate words with a different or opposite meaning.
- Check your choice by using both words in a short sentence where possible.
- After practising, look up unfamiliar words and revisit them later.
