7 Plus tuition in Loughton for Year 2 pupils
Redbridge Tuition’s four-month 7+ course prepares Year 2 pupils for selective independent-school entrance assessments. The programme develops Maths, English, reasoning and interview confidence in a small group of no more than eight students.
The next course begins in September 2026 at our Loughton tuition centre. School assessment formats differ, so teaching covers strong academic foundations as well as the ability to approach unfamiliar questions calmly and accurately.
What is the 7 Plus entrance exam?
The 7 Plus is an entrance assessment normally taken during Year 2 for admission to Year 3 at a selective independent school. There is no single national 7+ paper. Each school decides its own subjects, question formats, interview process and timetable.
For example, Bancroft’s current 7+ admissions guidance includes Maths, non-verbal reasoning and English assessments. Families considering other schools should check the relevant school’s current admissions pages, including Chigwell School admissions and St Paul’s 7+ admissions.

Maths
Number fluency, calculation, mathematical reasoning and age-appropriate problem solving.
English
Reading comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, grammar and clear written responses.
Reasoning
Strategies for verbal, non-verbal and unfamiliar problem types where relevant to target schools.
Interview confidence
Practice communicating ideas, listening carefully and responding thoughtfully.

How preparation should work at age seven
Effective preparation at this age should be structured but encouraging. Pupils first need secure reading, writing and number foundations. They can then learn how to interpret assessment questions, explain their thinking and work independently for manageable periods. Timed practice is introduced carefully when a child understands the underlying skill.
No tuition provider can guarantee admission. A school’s decision may consider assessments, interviews, school reports and its own admissions policy. Our role is to help pupils understand the work, practise productively and approach the process with greater confidence.
