Verbal or non-verbal reasoning: where should you start?

Verbal reasoning uses words, letters, numbers and logic. Try Similar Meaning for vocabulary, Compound Words for word combinations or Anagrams for rearranging letters.

Non-verbal reasoning uses visual patterns and shapes. Begin with one question style, such as similarities or series, before combining topics. Check your target school’s current entrance-test requirements: not every exam includes the same subjects or question types.

2D Non-Verbal Reasoning

More non-verbal reasoning practice

3D and spatial reasoning practice

Spatial questions ask children to imagine shapes from different viewpoints or work out how flat faces form a solid. Key topics include plan views (views from above), elevations (side views), compound shapes and cube nets. Use the dedicated plan-view and elevation guides for worked methods, common mistakes and extra practice.

For focused practice, our paid 3D & Spatial Papers book includes examples, exercises and four practice papers with mark schemes. View the sample pages to judge the level before choosing a digital download or physical copy.

Created by Redbridge Tuition and Redbridge Publishing

Our subject specialists write resources used in Redbridge Tuition classrooms and in our published books. Our video tutorials explain reasoning methods, while the worksheets give children a chance to practise independently. The aim is to help families identify the next skill to work on, rather than simply complete more questions.
