Example SATs raw-to-scaled score conversion table

Updated for 2026: KS2 SATs scaled scores still run from 80 to 120. A score of 100 or more means a pupil has met the expected standard. The raw mark needed for each scaled score can change from year to year, so parents should use the official 2026 conversion tables for current results.

The detailed tables below are retained as a 2019 example and should not be used to calculate a 2026 result. Historical source: National curriculum assessments at key stage 2 in England, 2019 (revised).

The grading system for SATs changed in 2016. The scores are now scaled, meaning that they are awarded points based on the mark achieved.

The range of the points is between 80 and 120. This means that the highest score a child can achieve is 120. (note: the highest score in KS1 is 115 and the lowest is 85).

 

What is a good KS1 SATs score?

115 – the highest score that a child can achieve.

114 to 101 – a child has exceeded the expected level

100 – a child is working at the expected level

99 to 85 – a child has not met the expected level

 

What is a good KS2 SATs score?

120 – the highest score that a child can achieve.

119 to 101 – a child has exceeded the expected level

100 – a child is working at the expected level

99 to 80 – a child has not met the expected level
