History
City of London School School for Girls was founded in 1894, following a generous bequest in the will of William Ward. Ward was a successful merchant from Brixton, giving a significant portion of his wealth to fund the new school. The school initially opened in Carmelite Street, moving to the Barbican in the summer of 1969, where it has remained to this day.
