History

Having been an agricultural village since the Middle Ages, Sidcup began to urbanise in the late 1800s, following the opening of Sidcup railway station, with direct travel to central London. This led to an increasing population as many moved into the town from surrounding areas. However, this increase created a strain on schooling, which the council solved with the creation of Sidcup County School for Boys. The name was later changed to Chislehurst and Sidcup County School in 1938, following the abolishment of Sidcup Urban District Council. Finally in 1968, the school became co-educational, with the first girls arrived at the school in September 1973.
