Redbridge Tuition

Because learning should light fires.

Since 2007, we’ve helped thousands of 5 to 16-year-olds transform nervous questions into confident answers and, more importantly, transform the way they see themselves as learners.

A Founder’s Story – From Finance Floors to Classroom Floors

Rupa Harji Redbridge Tuition Founder

Rupa Harji still remembers the ticking seconds of world markets and the perfectly timed chaos of trading-floor phones. But what she remembers even more vividly is the ten-year-old boy she met as a lunchtime volunteer: bright smile, kind heart, unable to read a paragraph without stumbling.

For eight weeks, they unravelled sentences together, and on the final Friday, he read an entire chapter out loud, then said something Rupa carries with her to this day:
“Miss, the words don’t scare me anymore.”

Those eight weeks changed two lives. Rupa left investment banking, completed a PGCE and began tutoring in her evenings. She quickly spotted patterns: children labelled “average” often lacked only one of three things—tailored explanations, time to practise, or someone who believed they could. In 2007, armed with nothing but a suitcase of hand-drawn worksheets and a rented classroom at Ilford County High School, she launched Redbridge Tuition’s first Saturday group.

The formula resonated. Within five years, demand overflowed five rented halls; by 2014, the first permanent centre opened on 43 Meads Lane, Seven Kings, IG3 8QL. A second centre followed in 2019 at 156 High Road, Loughton, IG10 4BE. What began as one volunteer’s conviction became a community.

Culture in Action – We are Different

At Redbridge Tuition, we cultivate a friendly and open culture where education is compassionate and transformative.

Our team tailors their approach to each unique child, fostering curiosity and a genuine love for learning. We promote flexibility, innovation, and collaboration among our staff, empowering them to make a positive impact.

By nurturing a supportive atmosphere built on trust and accountability, we enable both personal and professional growth, inspiring our students to embrace their full potential joyfully.

The Beyond Method: teaching that responds to your child

A completed worksheet is only part of the picture. We want your child to understand, explain and apply what they have learned with increasing independence.

  1. Define: Agree what matters most for your child: confidence, understanding, gaps, exam preparation or independence.
  2. Diagnose: Use questions, prior work and short tasks to identify strengths, gaps and misconceptions.
  3. Prioritise: Choose the gaps that will make the biggest difference, rather than trying to fix everything at once.
  4. Prompt: Use questions and clues to draw out your child’s thinking, with enough support to help them start.
  5. Check: Ask your child to explain and apply the learning independently, then revisit it later or in a different question.
  6. Change: Adapt the pace, task, explanation, level of support or next focus in response to what your child can do.

This is a continuous loop: tutors revisit the student’s needs and change the teaching response as learning develops.
